Why Not?

Support a provides a home computer to Baltimore City students and their parents. L@TCH brings together schools, parents, private foundations and businesses and puts technology to work for our children. L@TCH places donated computers, monitors and peripherals that have been refurbished with parents and their students to make the program cost – effective and affordable.

And more than anything – it keeps Every Family Connected.

L@TCH Opened New Doors to Learning at Home in the 2010-11 School Year

Three hundred fifty families took a L@TCH computer home during the 2010-2011 school year. Students in grades Pre K- 11th in six Baltimore City public schools, Collington Square Elementary, Coppin Academy High, Southwest Baltimore Charter, REACH Partnership, Tench Tilghman Elementary and Rosemont Academy, got a refurbished computer loaded with over 30 educational software games to help them build their academic skills. The systems also included a new printer.

The parent of a Tench Tilghman fifth grader said:

“The L@TCH program has made a positive difference in our family because it has provided us the ability to own a computer in the home. The computer has taught my son that computers can be used in different types of ways other than just game playing. My son was excited when he had a project on natural disasters. When he researched (learned how to search) he learned all the different types and learned about a lot of history about them. Then he decided to research all most anything and everything from food to his family history. I am very appreciative of the L@TCH program for giving our family the opportunity to have the technology to keep up with the computer world.”

All the parents of these students attended one of the 20 Family Computer Workshops held to raise awareness to the responsibilities of having a computer with Internet access in the home and how to use technology to improve the home learning environment. Our L@TCH families have an average of three students per family which means these L@TCH computers have impacted almost 1,000 students Carlton Epps, Operator of Civic Works Inc., REACH! Partnership School stated:

“The LATCH program provides parents with an excellent way to positively impact their student’s academic success. Not only does LATCH provide excellent hardware and almost no cost, it also provides software and training that is priceless. Every home should have a LATCH computer and its educational software.”
